Tabula – Tool for Liberating Data Tables Locked Inside PDF Files
http://tabula.technology/

Tabula was created by journalists for journalists and anyone else working with data locked away in PDFs. Tabula will always be free and open source. If you’ve ever tried to do anything with data provided to you in PDFs, you know how painful it is — there’s no easy way to copy-and-paste rows of data out of PDF files. Tabula allows you to extract that data into a CSV or Microsoft Excel spreadsheet using a simple, easy-to-use interface. Tabula works on Mac, Windows and Linux. Tabula is used to power investigative reporting at news organizations of all sizes, including ProPublica, The Times of London, Foreign Policy, La Nación (Argentina), The New York Times and the St. Paul (MN) Pioneer Press. Grassroots organizations like SchoolCuts.org rely on Tabula to turn clunky documents into human-friendly public resources. And researchers of all kinds use Tabula to turn PDF reports into Excel spreadsheets, CSVs, and JSON files for use in analysis and database applications. Tabula was created by Manuel Aristarán, Mike Tigas and Jeremy B. Merrill with the support of ProPublica, La Nación DATA, Knight-Mozilla OpenNews, The New York Times. Tabula was designed by Jason Das. OCCRP seeks to provide in-depth investigative stories as well as the latest news pertaining to organized crime and corruption activities in the region. In addition to the stories, OCCRP is building an online resource center of documents related to organized crime including court records, laws, reports, studies, company records and other public documents that will be an invaluable resource center for journalists and the public alike. OpenCorporates – The Largest Open Database of Companies in the World

OpenCorporates – The Largest Open Database of Companies in the World
https://www.OpenCorporates.com/

OpenCorporates is the largest open database of companies and company data in the world, with in excess of 100 million companies in a similarly large number of jurisdictions. Their primary goal is to make information on companies more usable and more widely available for the public benefit, particularly to tackle the use of companies for criminal or anti-social purposes, for example corruption, money laundering and organised crime. We live in a global, corporate, connected world. Companies are no longer bricks-and-mortar institutions, but increasingly complex networks of legal entities that span multiple countries and jurisdictions. This is especially true for powerful global corporations, and for corporate structures used for criminal or anti-social purposes. Few parts of the corporate world are limited to a single country, and so the world needs a way of bringing the information together in a single place, and more than that, a place that’s accessible to anyone, not just those who subscribe to proprietary datasets.
