Archive Finder
http://archives.chadwyck.com/marketing/index.jsp

Archive Finder brings together ArchivesUSA and the cumulative index to the National Inventory of Documentary Sources in the UK and Ireland (NIDS UK/Ireland), previously available on CD-ROM. ArchivesUSA is a current directory of over 5,500 repositories and more than 161,000 collections of primary source material across the United States. NIDS UK/Ireland is a major reference work that reproduces on microfiche the finding aids to thousands of archive and manuscript collections in libraries and record offices, museums and private collections throughout the UK and Ireland. Used together in Archive Finder, researchers are able to read descriptions of a repository’s holdings to determine whether a collection contains material useful to their work as well as find the information they need to contact the repository directly. Repository records provide detailed information including phone and fax numbers, hours of service, materials solicited, email and home page URLs when available. Each collection record links to its corresponding repository record, simplifying the research process. Archive Finder integrates the following information into comprehensive collection records: 1) The entire collection of NUCMC from 1959 to 2006. The National Union Catalog of Manuscript Collections (NUCMC) includes information gathered and indexed by the Library of Congress, covering more than 106,000 collections. Only Archive Finder makes all of the historical NUCMC fully searchable in electronic form; 2) Names and detailed subject indexing of over 65,000 collections whose finding aids have been published separately in ProQuest UMI’s microfiche series, National Inventory of Documentary Sources in the United States (NIDS); 3) Names and detailed subject indexing of over 44,500 collections whose finding aids have been published separately in ProQuest UMI’s microfiche series, National Inventory of Documentary Sources in the United Kingdom and Ireland (NIDS UK/Ireland); 4) •Collection descriptions submitted directly to us from repositories; and 5) A growing number of more than 6,000 links to online finding aids. Detailed indexing of collections allows powerful searching across eight combinable fields. Users can zero in on material relevant to their research. This has been added to the tools section of Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. This has been added to Academic and Scholar Search Engines and Sources annotated white paper.

Cases Journal

June 01, 2009

Cases Journal
http://casesjournal.com/

Cases Journal is an open access, peer-reviewed online journal that publishes case reports from any area of medicine. The journal will publish any report that is understandable, ethical, authentic, and includes all information essential to its interpretation. All case reports published in the journal will be aggregated into a database, which will allow users to search for case reports by disease, drug, patient demographics and more, to find cases of most relevance to their clinical practice or research interests. They believe that aggregating the articles in a database in this way makes every case important – hence we welcome submission of ‘everyday’ cases as well as rare disorders or unusual events. Case reports with negative outcomes are as welcome as those with positive outcomes. The journal aims to publish thousands of case reports – many more than any other medical journal. Cases Journal accepts submission of case reports from any physician. Authors are encouraged to invite the patient to contribute to the case report – each article can include an optional ‘Patient’s perspective¹ section, where the patient describes their experience of the disorder and treatment. Cases Journal is a sister publication to Journal of Medical Case Reports. JMCR is a more selective journal, publishing only those case reports that are the first of their kind. Case reports published in JMCR will be aggregated into the same database as those from Cases Journal.

Hospital Compare – A Quality Tool Provided by Medicare
http://www.hospitalcompare.hhs.gov/

Hospital Compare is a tool that will find information on how well hospitals care for patients with certain medical conditions or surgical procedures, and results from a survey of patients about the quality of care they received during a recent hospital stay. This information will help you compare the quality of care hospitals provide. Talk to your doctor about this information to help you, your family and your friends make your best hospital care decisions. Hospital Compare was created through the efforts of the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services (CMS), the Department of Health and Human Services, and other members of the Hospital Quality Alliance: Improving Care Through Information (HQA). The information on this website comes from hospitals that have agreed to submit quality information for Hospital Compare to make public. This has been added to Healthcare Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog.
