CrowdSpoke – Community Powered News Platform

CrowdSpoke – Community Powered News Platform
http://crowdspoke.com/

Crowdspoke is a community-powered news platform where people collectively share and curate the best, up-to-date information about topics in real-time. Contributing is fun and easy – every time you pick the best (and worst) articles, images, videos, and tweets, you help share better information with the entire community. They created Crowdspoke in order to address 2 big pains with real-time information: first, when there is a big news event such as a disaster, a political uprising, or a major sporting event, so much content is produced so quickly that it is nearly impossible to get a sense of what’s the most important information. Algorithms are at the heart of most solutions (including theirs), but they only go so far, and they believe the problem of information overload is best solved by human curators acting together, in real-time, with powerful tools. The second pain they are trying to address is the difficulty of discovering content in smaller, niche communities. For example, if you love rock climbing, how do you discover fresh content and news related to that topic? Do you follow specific blogs, hashtags, or users on Twitter? How do you know you have the best sources, or even enough sources to really get a holistic view? The Live Stream on our Rock Climbing page combines sources from expert and passionate community members, continuously curated by everyone to maintain the freshest and most relevant information. The result is one of the best ways to discover content on the Web about the topics you care about. This has been added to the tools section of Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. Peerage of Science – Community of Scientists and Peer Review Web Application

January 25, 2012

Peerage of Science – Community of Scientists and Peer Review Web Application
http://www.peerageofscience.org/

Peerage of Science is a community of scientists from 27 countries and over 200 institutions around the world. You may well recognise some of the over 500 Peers. Peerage of Science also involves participating journals and supporting institutions. Also, check out what the community is talking about in the blog. You can become a Peer via an invitation from a Peer. The other way to join the community is through peer review. Send a manuscript, and if Peers consider your manuscript deserving scientific peer review you become, by definition, a Peer. Peerage of Science is a web service for automatically controlled, standardized, rigorous, fully anonymous scientific peer review. The service offers Authors a way to focus on science, Reviewers a way to directly benefit from the work they do, Editors a way to proactive, efficient and less time-consuming decisions, and Publishers a competitive advantage. Funders, institutions and society as a whole benefit from better use and allocation of resources via better evaluation of science. Peerage of Science Ltd is a company in Jyväskylä, Finland, founded, owned and governed by scientists. Proud to be a different company, the primary purpose of Peerage of Science is to “foster and develop the practice of science, as well as the conditions, societal standing and evaluation thereof, while promoting the interests of the researchers registered as users of the Company’s services”.
