Participedia – Strengthening Democracy Through Shared Knowledge

Participedia – Strengthening Democracy Through Shared Knowledge
http://participedia.net/

Participedia harnesses the power of collaboration to respond to a recent global phenomenon: the rapid development of experiments in new forms of participatory politics and governance around the world. We live in a world in which citizens of most countries are asking for greater involvement in collective decisions. Many governments, non-governmental organizations, and even some corporations are responding by experimenting with ways to increase public participation. Hundreds of thousands of participatory processes occur each year in almost every country in the world. They are occurring in a wide variety of political and policy problems. And they often supplement and sometimes compete with more traditional forms of politics, such as representative democracy. Participedia responds to these developments by providing a low-cost, easy way for hundreds of researchers and practitioners from across the globe to catalogue and compare the performance of participatory political processes. Practitioners, activists, government officials, and journalists will benefit from Participedia’s searchable database of cases, methods, and organizations, including knowledge about how well processes have worked for similar problems, under similar conditions. Social scientists, policy analysts, democratic theorists, and other scholars will benefit from access to a dynamic, diverse, and growing source of comparable qualitative and quantitative data. They encourage you to contribute information on case studies, methods and organizations. The more you participate, the more you will appreciate what this site has to offer. One Million by One Million
http://1m1m.sramanamitra.com/

One Million by One Million is a global initiative that aims to nurture a million entrepreneurs to reach a million dollars each in annual revenue and beyond by 2020, thereby creating a trillion dollars in global GDP and ten million jobs. Silicon Valley entrepreneur and strategy consultant Sramana Mitra founded 1M/1M to create a framework for Capitalism 2.0, which she envisions as distributed, democratic capitalism. The program was born out of her 2010 New Year Resolution. They offer a case-study-based online educational program, video lectures, lean, capital-efficient methodology guidance, online strategy consulting at public and private roundtables, as well as introductions to customers, channel partners and investors (pre-seed, seed, angel, VC, bank, alternative financing). The public roundtable is a free program accessible from anywhere in the world. The rest of the services are for their paying members only. Please note that they focus on business strategy and execution; capital is optional, and may or may not be appropriate for your particular business. Less than 1% of businesses that seek funding are actually fundable. However, they are perfectly happy to help the other 99% build sustainable businesses as well, irrespective of fundability or interest in external financing. Newsle – News About Your People

February 28, 2012

Newsle – News About Your People
http://newsle.com/

Newsle is a web app that tracks people in the news. Newsle finds articles about you, your friends and colleagues, and anyone else you care about and notifies you minutes or hours after they’re published. Newsle’s private beta launched in January 2011, and was covered by TechCrunch. The current version is a major evolution of the original concept. Newsle now combs the web continuously, analyzing over 1 million articles each day – every major news article and blog post published online, as well as most minor ones. Newsle’s core technology is its disambiguation algorithm, which determines whether an article mentioning “John Smith” is about the right person. Newsle only indexes publicly available news articles. They do not search for personal records, criminal records, phone numbers, addresses, or other private information.
