Timetastic – Nicer Way To Book Time Off
https://www.timetastic.co.uk/

Timetastic lets you manage staff leave over the internet or using your mobile phone. Check your holiday calendar, request some time off, the boss authorises by email, and everything is recorded and reconciled instantly. The best way to find out how it works is to see for yourself. They are in the final stages of testing – sign up to join the beta, try it out, and let them know what you think. It’s free to use the beta, but when they go live, your first 3 employees will be free; each additional will cost 50p per month. Cancel anytime. Yes, really, it’s that simple. Good Practices for University Open-access Policies

October 25, 2012

Good Practices for University Open-access Policies
http://bit.ly/goodoa

This is a guide to good practices for university open-access (OA) policies. It’s based on the type of policy adopted at Harvard, Stanford, MIT, U of Kansas, U of Oregon, Trinity, Oberlin, Rollins, Wake Forest, Duke, U of Puerto Rico, Hawaii – Manoa, Columbia, Strathmore, Emory, Princeton, Jomo Kenyatta, Utah State, Bifröst, Miami, California – San Francisco, and the U Massachusetts Medical School (listing some but not all, and in chronological order). However, it includes recommendations that should be useful to institutions taking other approaches. The guide is designed to evolve. No early version will cover every point on which good practices would be desirable or might be discernible. We plan to revise and enlarge it over time, building on our own experience and the experience of colleagues elsewhere. We welcome suggestions. The guide was in the works for several years before the first public version launched in October 2012. It’s one small part of the larger effort described in Recommendation 4.2 of the ten-year anniversary statement of the Budapest Open Access Initiative September 2012: Supporters of open access “should develop guidelines to universities and funding agencies considering OA policies, including recommended policy terms, best practices, and answers to frequently asked questions.” They deliberately call their recommendations “good practices” rather than “best practices”. On many points, there are multiple, divergent good practices. Good practices can change as circumstances change, and as we learn more. Good practices are easier to identify than best practices. And there can be wider agreement on which practices are good than on which practices are best. They hope the guide will be useful to institutions considering an OA policy, and to faculty, students, librarians, and administrators who would like their institution to start considering one. i-Programmer – An Online Magazine for Programmers
http://www.i-programmer.info/

An online magazine for programmers but unlike a typical magazine that comes out once a month, or at best once a week, they publish new content every day of the week. They aim to post at least three full-length feature articles per week that provide a balance of theory and practice, tutorial and project plus comment pieces that reflect on the programming issues. They also have a rich wealth of material on the history and development of programming and computer technology. Every week day there is a “Book Review of the Day” on a topic of direct or indirect interest to programmers. You’ll find new books on both mainstream and less well known computer languages, plus books on hardware platforms, social media, careers and training plus topics such as digital photography that are of interest to their team of reviewers and are likely to appeal to many of their readers. This will be added to Script Resources Subject Tracer™.
