SlingPut – Rally Friends Around Your Ideas

January 23, 2015

SlingPut – Rally Friends Around Your Ideas
http://slingput.com/

Quickly gather emails, feedback, and payment by picking something short & memorable for your page’s web address at SlingPut. You should create a Slingput page if you have a new idea and you want to rally your friends around your idea. Slingput helps you collect email addresses to find your community of supporters, gather feedback to test and refine your idea, and accept payment to get your idea off the ground. The best time to create a Slingput page is after you’ve had some time to let your idea simmer but before you’ve made a big time investment in your idea. Slingput facilitates that step between scribbling something brilliant on a napkin and building your minimum viable product. Slingput eliminates hurdles so that you can get started right away. All you need is: an idea, a Twitter account, an image that relates to your idea (high resolution works best), and an email address (so we can send you updates). Slingput gives you the option to accept payments from your friends. You can set a minimum amount that you’re willing to accept and your friends can give any amount above that minimum. Or set it at $0. Slingput collects the payments and transfers them to your connected bank account once a month. Slingput charges a 2.5% fee on all accepted payments plus credit card processing fees. NerdyData – The Seach Engine for Source Code

January 22, 2015

NerdyData – The Seach Engine for Source Code
http://nerdydata.com/

Other search engines only search on the text of a web page – not on the code it is built with. You can now find all sites managed under the same Google Analytics account, or sites with a certain term in their tags, or even all sites that are coded with blue color schemes. Queries are made through their simple search interfaces, designed for a variety of use cases. Get excited, now you can search meta text, discover backlink opportunities, and stalk your competitors. Subscribers to their realtime plan can track any snippet of code and see daily changes. Find out when any side adds or removes your code or your competitors code libraries. After you do a search, you can download the sites returned as a list in 4 different formats. You can also have results sent by email, if that’s the kind of thing you’re into. This will be added to the tools section of Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Information Blog. This will be added to Entrepreneurial Resources Subject Tracer™. National Library of Medicine Specialized Information Services

January 21, 2015

National Library of Medicine Specialized Information Services
http://sis.nlm.nih.gov/

The website for Specialized Information Services (SIS), provided by the National Library of Medicine (NLM), has a very long html title: “Reliable information on K-12 science education, chemistry and toxicology information, environmental health, HIV/AIDS information, and outreach to minority and other specific populations.” While the title is no doubt provided to increase the site’s findability in search engines, it’s a handy synopsis for humans of the rich resources on offer. The A-Z list includes between 200 and 300 online sources. There are specialized databases, such as the Household Products Database that consumers can use to find out if there are any hazardous ingredients in products they use, as well as databases for researchers like ALTBIB, a collection of citations on alternatives to using live animals for testing. In addition, there are a number of fact sheets and research guides. If the A-Z list is too overwhelming, return to the SIS home page where the resources are organized into six broad categories: Environmental Health & Toxicology; Chemical and Drug Information; HIV/AIDS; Outreach Activities & Resources; Disaster Information Management Research Center; and K-12 Science and Health Education. Freedom of Information Act Electronic Reading Room

Freedom of Information Act Electronic Reading Room
http://www.foia.cia.gov

If you have a few hours to spare and you’re curious to know what the CIA has been interested in over the past half century or so, the Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) Electronic Reading Room might be the site for you. Start on the homepage, where you can read about functionalities of the Reading Room and browse overviews of the FOIA, the Privacy Act, and Executive Order 13526, which clarifies the process of classifying and declassifying documents. Then, use the search engine to scout the site. For instance, a search for “UFO” turns up dozens of declassified documents, including a 1967 report about unidentified objects over Moscow. Searching “Cuba” returns hundreds of documents, including plans for the Bay of Pigs invasion. This will be added to Business Intelligence Resources Subject Tracer™.
