HASTAC: The Pedagogy Project

June 23, 2017

HASTAC: The Pedagogy Project
https://www.hastac.org/pedagogy-project

Instructors looking to incorporate digital tools and learning into their classrooms will want to check out the Pedagogy Project, an initiative from the the Humanities, Arts, Science, and Technology Alliance and Collaboratory (HASTAC, pronounced “Haystack”). The project features a collection of classroom activities and assignments along with tips about how to utilize digital tools in instruction and assessment. These resources have been developed, contributed, and organized by HASTAC Scholars, a community of graduate and undergraduate students, representing a range of disciplinary backgrounds, who are dedicated to honing their digital pedagogy skills and developing projects “at the intersections of technology and the arts, humanities, and sciences.” The Pedagogy Project is organized into nine sections, including Collaborative Digital Projects, In-Class Activities, Multimedia Projects, and Writing Assignments. Through these sections, instructors will learn about ways to “teach rhetorical pathos through playlists,” find ideas about how to incorporate Wikipedia and Pinterest into the classroom, and how digital tools can aid in grading student work. While aimed specifically at college level instructors, many of these ideas may also be of interest to all educators. This will be added to Education and Academic Resources Subject Tracer™. The OpEd Project

June 22, 2017

The OpEd Project
http://theopedproject.org/

The OpEd Project’s mission is to increase the range of voices and quality of ideas we hear in the world. A starting goal is to increase the number of women thought leaders in key commentary forums to a tipping point. We envision a world where the best ideas – regardless of where they come from – will have a chance to be heard, and to shape society and the world. Working with top universities, foundations, think tanks, nonprofits, corporations and community organizations, we scout and train under-represented experts to take thought leadership positions in their fields; we connect them with our national network of high-level media mentors; and we vet and channel the best new experts and ideas directly to media gatekeepers who need them, across all platforms. The OpEd Project is an Echoing Green Project. This will be added to the tools section of Research Resources Subject Tracer™. This will be added to Journalism Resources Subject Tracer™.

Public Knowledge (PK)

June 20, 2017

Public Knowledge (PK)
https://www.publicknowledge.org/

Public Knowledge (PK) promotes freedom of expression, an open internet, and access to affordable communications tools and creative works. We work to shape policy on behalf of the public interest. ublic Knowledge works at the intersection of copyright, telecommunications, and Internet law, at a time when these fields are converging. PK’s experience in all three areas puts it in an ideal position to advocate for policies that serve the public interest. What Public Knowledge does: a) Ensure universal access to affordable and open networks; b) Promote creativity through balanced copyright; c) Advance government transparency and the public’s access to knowledge; d) Uphold and protect consumer rights; e) Oppose policies that would slow technology, impede innovation, shrink the public domain, or limit fair use; f) Educate the press, the public, and policymakers using plain-language analysis, white papers, blog posts, and videos; and g) Produce events that provide a forum for policymakers, the public, industry, and the press to exchange ideas about our core issues.
