WatchKnowLearn – Free Organized Educational Videos
http://www.watchknowlearn.org/

The Vision behind WatchKnowLearn is simple: To provide a world-class, online domain on which educators can store, categorize, and rate the best, K – 12 educational videos on the Internet today. And to make this service FREE so teachers, parents and students everywhere may have access to those videos. To make this a reality, they invite teachers, instructors and educators to suggest videos for inclusion into our directory, and then to review, approve, and assign those videos into appropriate categories using a wiki framework and philosophy. The videos are the highest quality found on the Internet, cover all major educational topics from elementary to secondary schools (or age range 1 – 18), and are Kid Safe because they are vetted by teachers. WatchKnowLearn has indexed approximately 50,000 educational videos, placing them into a directory of over 5,000 categories. The videos are available without any registration or fees to teachers in the classroom, as well as parents and students at home 24/7. Users can dive into our innovative directory or search for videos by subject and age level. Video titles, descriptions, age level information, and ratings are all edited for usefulness. Our Web site invites broad participation in a new kind of wiki system, guided by teachers. WatchKnowLearn does not itself host videos—we serve as a library for links to excellent educational videos that have been selected by educators. BEN Portal: BioSciEdNet

BEN Portal: BioSciEdNet
www.biosciednet.org/portal

Originally featured in the 01-18-2013 Scout Report, we’ve decided to re-feature the BEN Portal: a project of the American Association for the Advancement of Science (AAAS). For almost two decades the BEN Portal, which stands for BiosciEdNet, has sought to provide “seamless access to e-resources, but to also serve as a catalyst for strengthening teaching and learning in the biological sciences.” Today, the BEN Portal (which has also been affiliated with the National Science Digital Library since 2005) features publications from over thirty organizations, including the AAAS, the American Physiological Society, the Biotechnology Institute, the Howard Hughes Medical Institute, and much more. Visitors are invited to conduct a text search in this collection or browse materials by subject. In addition, educators can browse teaching strategies by classroom level (K-12 educators; college faculty). The BEN Portal features both free resources and resources that require a subscription: users have the option to limit search results to free resources. Surf Canyon Search Engine

March 17, 2018

Surf Canyon Search Engine
http://www.surfcanyon.com/

As the quantity of information on the internet expands exponentially, it has become increasingly difficult, if not impossible, for search engines to provide all the relevant results on page one, while simultaneously eliminating those that are irrelevant. It is furthermore of little use providing millions of matched documents when few people bother expending the effort to dig past the first page of results. To address these problems, Surf Canyon has invented Dynamic Search, a real-time contextual search technology that observes user behavior in order to disambiguate intent “on the fly,” and then automatically bring forward to page one relevant results that might otherwise have remain buried. By transforming traditional static lists of links into dynamic search pages where results are immediately re-ordered, users are able to more quickly and easily find pertinent information buried among the irrelevant results, significantly accelerating the search process. This patented technology is available at our search site. The company was founded in 2006 and is headquartered in San Francisco, CA. In 2015, Surf Canyon was re-branded to Rank Dynamics. Inside – Real News, Curated by Real Humans
https://inside.com/

Real news, curated by real humans … Packed with the trends, news & links you need to be smart, informed, and ahead of the curve. They think news on the internet is broken. Too much writing is optimized and incentivized for traffic and virality, instead of impact and quality. Modern publications hardly have a relationship with their audience, because they focus on viral hits instead of sustained readership. Email provides an excellent channel to re-align those incentives. If they can convince you to subscribe to one of their newsletters, they have the chance to deliver something great to you on a regular basis. They don’t need to pay for social network traffic or optimize our headlines for virality in order to reach you again – they just hit publish and our stories land in your inbox. And of course, if they don’t deliver value, you can simply unsubscribe. They are focused on delivering as much value as possible to you, in every one of their newsletters. Anything they publish goes through a rigorous editorial process and is a polished piece of work that they are proud to send to you.
