The Organization for Economic Co-Operation and Development (OECD)
http://www.oecd.org/

The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world. The OECD provides a forum in which governments can work together to share experiences and seek solutions to common problems They work with governments to understand what drives economic, social and environmental change. We measure productivity and global flows of trade and investment. They analyse and compare data to predict future trends. They set international standards on a wide range of things, from agriculture and tax to the safety of chemicals. They also look at issues that directly affect everyone’s daily life, like how much people pay in taxes and social security, and how much leisure time they can take. They compare how different countries’ school systems are readying their young people for modern life, and how different countries’ pension systems will look after their citizens in old age. Drawing on facts and real-life experience, they recommend policies designed to improve the quality of people’s lives. We work with business, through the Business and Industry Advisory Committee to the OECD (BIAC), and with labour, through the Trade Union Advisory Committee (TUAC). They have active contacts as well with other civil society organisations. The common thread of our work is a shared commitment to market economies backed by democratic institutions and focused on the wellbeing of all citizens. Survey of Industrial Research and Development (SIRD)

Survey of Industrial Research and Development (SIRD)
http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/srvyindustry/sird.cfm

The Survey of Industry Research and Development is the primary source of information on R&D performed by industry within the fifty states and the District of Columbia. The results of the survey are used to assess trends in R&D expenditures. Government agencies, corporations, and research organizations use the data to investigate productivity determinants, formulate tax policy, and compare individual company performance with industry averages. Individual researchers in industry and academia use the data to investigate a variety of topics and while preparing professional papers, dissertations, and books. The usefulness of the information collected in this survey is enhanced by the linkage of the data file to the Census Bureau’s Longitudinal Establishment Data file, which contains information on the outputs and inputs of companies’ manufacturing plants. Further, total R&D expenditure statistics are used by the Bureau of Economic Analysis for inclusion in their System of National Accounts and Foreign Direct Investment programs. Prior to 2001, completion of four items on the questionnaire was mandated by law: sales, total number of employees, total R&D, and Federally funded R&D. Beginning in 2001, response to the item that asks for the distribution of total R&D by state also was required. The Survey of Industrial Research and Development collected data for 1953-2007. Scientists and Engineers Statistical Data System (SESTAT)

Scientists and Engineers Statistical Data System (SESTAT)
http://www.nsf.gov/statistics/sestat/

SESTAT is the Scientists and Engineers Statistical Data System. This integrated data system is a unique source of longitudinal information on the education and employment of the college-educated U.S. science and engineering workforce. These data are collected through biennial surveys: 1) The National Survey of College Graduates (NSCG); 2) The National Survey of Recent College Graduates (NSRCG) (discontinued after 2010); and 3) The Survey of Doctorate Recipients (SDR). The NSCG is the core of SESTAT and covers the entire college graduate population residing in the United States. It provides information on individuals educated or employed in S&E fields as well as those educated or employed in non-S&E fields. The SDR further supplements SESTAT with the stock and inflow of U.S.-degreed doctoral level scientists and engineers. Through 2010, NSRCG supplemented SESTAT with the inflow of U.S.- degreed bachelor’s- and master’s- level scientists and engineers. Beginning in 2013, the NSCG began capturing this population and eliminated the need for a separate survey for this population. Learn about the redesign of SESTAT. SESTAT data are available for download or through the SESTAT Data Tool, which allows users to generate their own data tables. This will be added to Business Intelligence Resources Subject Tracer™.
