Digital Data & Society Consortium
https://digitaldatasociety.wordpress.com/

We are a group of researchers who take a social, cultural, political and ethical perspective on digital data, both ‘small’ or personal data and large or ‘big data’ sets. We bring together expertise across the social sciences, humanities and legal studies to engage in critical data studies. We are researching the following areas: a) How people make sense of the personal data that digital devices collect about them; b) How they incorporate these data into their everyday lives; c) What people know about the other actors and agencies who are using their data; d) The sensory and affective aspects of digital data; e) Locative devices, mobilities and data; f) Data literacies; g) The implications of big data for humanities and social science research and practice; h) How big data are influencing ideas about the social and society; i) The politics of big and small data; j) The sociomaterial dimensions of digital data collection, storage and use; k) Dataveillance, data privacy and security issues; l) The legal and ethical issues around personal and big data, including human rights; and m) Innovative methods for using and researching personal and big data. International Data Base

International Data Base
https://www.census.gov/programs-surveys/international-programs/about/idb.ht22

The International Data Base (IDB) was developed by the U.S. Census Bureau to provide access to accurate and timely demographic measures for populations around the world. The database includes a comprehensive set of indicators, as produced by the U.S. Census Bureau since the 1960s. Through sponsorship from various U.S. Government agencies, the IDB is updated on a regular basis to provide information needed for research, program planning, and policy-making decisions, in the U.S. and globally. Data included in the IDB consist of indicators developed from censuses, surveys, administrative records, and special measures of HIV/AIDS-related mortality. Through evaluation and adjustment of data from these sources, measures of population, mortality, fertility, and net migration are estimated for current and past years and then used as the basis for projections to 2050. The IDB provides estimates and projections for 228 countries and areas which have populations of 5,000 or more and as recognized by the U.S. Department of State. Population size (by single year of age and sex) and components of change (fertility, mortality, and migration) are provided from an initial or base year through 2050, for each calendar year. This level of detail provides an important foundation for tracking the demographic impacts of HIV/AIDS and related conditions, as well as events of concern that are affecting populations around the globe. Code Ocean – Discover and Run Scientific Code

Code Ocean – Discover and Run Scientific Code
https://codeocean.com/

ode Ocean is a cloud-based computational reproducibility platform that provides researchers and developers an easy way to share, discover and run code published in academic journals and conferences. More and more of today’s research includes software code, statistical analysis and algorithms that are not included in traditional publishing. But they are often essential to reproducing the research results and reusing them in a new product or research. This creates a major roadblock for researchers, one that inspired the first steps of Code Ocean as part of the 2014 Runway Startup Postdoc Program at the Jacobs Technion Cornell Institute. For the first time, researchers, engineers, developers and scientists can upload code and data in any open source programming language and link working code in a computational environment with the associated article for free. We assign a Digital Object Identifier (DOI) to the algorithm, providing correct attribution and a connection to the published research. The platform provides open access to the published software code and data to view and download for everyone for free. But the real treat is that users can execute all published code without installing anything on their personal computer. Everything runs in the cloud on CPUs or GPUs according to the user needs. We make it easy to change parameters, modify the code, upload data, run it again, and see how the results change. They are excited to be on this mission to make scientific code more open. Public documents are visible to anybody. Private documents are only visible to coauthors. They founded Authorea in late 2012 with the mission of accelerating scientific discovery. They were frustrated that other writing tools didn’t fully understand the needs of researchers — especially researchers in a web-first world — and wondered why the internet age hadn’t yet delivered a modern toolset for scientific collaboration. Authorea is the document editor we always wanted. Thousands of researchers from prestigious universities and institutions around the world use Authorea to make their research findings available to the public in a timely fashion. Authorea offers a number of lightweight publishing options to publish scholarly articles, preprints, conference proceedings, blog posts, and student essays. When published, these documents are assigned a DOI, so that they can be cited. This will be added to Business Intelligence Resources Subject Tracer™.
