U.S. Congress Votes Database

U.S. Congress Votes Database
http://projects.washingtonpost.com/congress/

This site, washingtonpost.com’s U.S. Congress Votes Database, is a deep database of every vote in the United States Congress since the 102nd Congress (1991). It lets you browse votes in a variety of ways — both in aggregate and for individual members of Congress. Browse the database by drilling down to a particular Congress (e.g. 109th Congress) or particular member (e.g. 109th Congress senators). This site publishes an RSS feed of recent votes by each member of Congress, and a feed of the most recent votes in both chambers. See the RSS page for full details. This site is generally updated every day, although there is a delay between a vote in Congress and its appearance on the official Congress Web sites. PeerMind – P2P Monitor

PeerMind – P2P Monitor
http://www.PeerMind.com/

PeerMind uses Nareos state-of-the-art P2P Presence technology to constantly monitor the global P2P networks. Currently they monitor EDonkey 2000 and Gnutella networks, and are working on adding FastTrack and BitTorrent. PeerMind registers millions of file-sharing events every week, and you can see the aggregated results on this site. Using that data, they publish weekly charts of top P2P songs, movies, games and software titles. Their charts show the total number of copies of an item that were available on peer-to-peer file sharing networks during the week. As they collect huge amounts of data every week, there are some even more exciting things that can be discovered from that data. Nareos will broaden the range of charts and reports, offering some of them for free to general public. Nareos does not collect the IP Addresses of individual users, and we will never do so. Internet is a global village, and we respect the privacy of our fellow netizens. This has been added to the P2P section of Deep Web Research Subject Tracer™ Information Blog

Excited Utterances – Archived Resource Of All Things Legal KM
http://www.excitedutterances.blogspot.com/

In May 2002, Joy created her blawg, “excited utterances”, not just to chronicle the world of legal technology, knowledge management and professional training in legal domains, but also to explore the complicated sociological and psychological aspects of implementing KM in international law firms. After obtaining her JD from Temple University School of Law in 1986, Joy worked a few years as a prosecutor in New York, before changing her career path to pursue law publishing. In 2002, while working for an international law firm, Joy discovered the world of knowledge management and has been hooked on it ever since. BIONLP.ORG – Natural Language Processing of Biology Text
http://www.ccs.neu.edu/home/futrelle/bionlp/

This site, established by Bob Futrelle in January 2001, is to be a collection of resources and links to resources about all aspects of natural language processing (NLP) and in particular its use in information extraction from biology texts. It is a non-commercial site dedicated to research in this field. It is not meant to teach NLP. But it does attempt to give you organized access to resources from which you can learn. I’ll also be including links to on-line materials for courses at various schools, so you could actually work through courses in this area, on-line. UK Web Archiving Consortium

February 04, 2006

UK Web Archiving Consortium
http://www.webarchive.org.uk/

For many, the web has become the information source of first resort. From keeping abreast of latest news and accessing online journals and datasets, through to finding information about travel and sport, the web has become the information tool of choice. However, despite our apparent dependence on this medium very little attention has been paid to the long-term preservation of websites. Indeed, with the life of an average website estimated to be around 44 days (about the same lifespan as a housefly) there is a danger that invaluable scholarly, cultural and scientific resources will be lost to future generations. To address this problem, a consortium of six leading UK institutions is working collaboratively on a project to develop a test-bed for selective archiving of UK websites. Using PANDAS software, developed by the National Library of Australia, consortium members will archive sites (once appropriate permissions have been obtained from website owners) relevant to their interests. For example, the Wellcome Library will focus on collecting medical sites, whilst the National Library of Wales will collect sites that reflect life in contemporary Wales. The British Library will focus on sites of cultural, historical and political importance. Once sites have been archived, catalogued and checked for completeness, they will be made accessible through this website. Users will be able to browse the archive – using broad subject headings – or search for specific sites and topics. This has been added to Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Inform, ation Blog. This will be added to Academic Resources 2006 Internet MiniGuide.
