Asia Policy Point (APP) is an independent, U.S. nonprofit [501(c)(3)] research center that studies the US policy relationship with Northeast Asia. APP provides objective information to the American policy community. APP’s members are scholars, analysts, policymakers, and journalists across a range of disciplines concerned with Asia. Founded in 1991, as the Japan Information Access Project, the organization changed its name in 2006 to better reflect its inter-disciplinary approach to the understanding of Japan and Asia. The goal is to promote innovative and non-ideological understanding of the political, economic, social, and security environment in Asia. Organizes meetings that bring together experts and policymakers on Japanese and Asian science, technology, security, and public policy: a) Researches critical and emerging issues affecting political relations among Japan, its neighbors, and the West. Research areas include: foreign policy, public opinion, historical reconciliation, innovation policy, economic development, and security issues, b) Publishes the weekly Asia Policy Calendar (APC), a Monday e-mail report that provides a calendar of upcoming hearings, events, and conferences as well as an original commentary and a list of the past week’s significant, Asia policy-relevant reports and opinion and c) The Project is funded by its membership dues and international universities and foundations.
