Cosmogrid – Grid-enabled Computational Physics of Natural Phenomena
http://www.cosmogrid.ie/
The purpose of the current proposal is two-fold. Firstly, it aims to generate cooperation between scientists working in different parts of the Computational Physics of Natural Phenomena and to provide them with a forum in which to progress their research through cross-fertilisation; the vision is, in some sense, to create a virtual department orthogonal to existing institutional and departmental divisions. Secondly, it aims to use new and rapidly moving developments in information technology and electronic communication to provide an order of magnitude increase in the facilities available for research and training in this area through provision of a powerful computational grid. The two aims mutually reinforce each other, the computational grid mirroring and supporting the intellectual and sociological network linking the participants.
