Education and discovery are best advanced when knowledge is shared openly and freely. Open Courseware (OCW) is now available on many websites and forms a vast educational resource with much potential for development and the widespread exchange of ideas about its use in teaching and learning. They are attempting to provide a comprehensive and up-to-date directory to OCW. Their educational material and facilities will always be free to anyone who is interested but they are now encouraging visitors to register their involvement as part of a self-sustaining academic community of educators and learners that is independent of existing universities and colleges and free of commercial interests.
