Spike – World’s Best News Tracked with Social Metrics
http://spike.newswhip.com/

Spike uses social metrics to track the world’s best news. Spike opens you to the world’s live news conversation. It shows you exactly what content is getting traction now on Facebook and Twitter. Spot the stories trending from any major publication, discover what’s big in topics like health, music or sports, or find engaging new content emerging from Reddit or YouTube. Features include: a) Subject View – Subject view lets you see what’s trending in a country or a topic. So you can check what’s big in the U.S. by clicking on U.S. in the left menu, or see what’s big in Tech by clicking that. Or if you want to get more granular, you can see what’s big in Tech in the US by clicking both filters; b) Publisher View – With publisher view, you can check what’s trending in any one of dozens of publications. Within each country and topic area, they have identified most of the biggest online publications, which they call publisher. Click on a country to view them. By clicking on a source, you can browse the most social stories published from there in the last 1, 3, 12 or 24 hours; c) Breadcrumb Trail – The breadcrumb trail lets you keep track of which filters you’re applying; d) 1 Hour View – In both Subject and Publisher view, you can see what’s trending in stories published in the last 1 hour, 3 hours, 12 hours, or 24 hours. In 1 hour view, the ranking is powered by an absolute number – the number of social interactions for each story published in the last hour; e) 3, 12,and 24 Hour Views – In the 3, 12, and 24 hour views, the ranking is powered by how fast the story has spread. In these views, you’ll see both the total social stats for a story and how well it’s done in the past few hours. NewsWhip gathers new scoring information for each story every 5 – 10 minutes, so there may be a slight lag between the information in Spike, and the information presented on the story’s page. Generally, the 1 and 3 hour view are best for spotting emerging trends, and the 12 and 24 hour view are best for catching up on what’s been happening; f) Viral News – Within subject view, they have a Viral section, powered by social signals from Reddit, YouTube, and viral feeder sites. It’s a great place to find pictures, videos and stories that have not yet been picked up by other outlets; and g) Spike Search – Use Spike search to see what’s trending around anything. Check for trending news involving political candidates, news items, topics of interest, or anything else. Spike search ranks results based on how fast they’re spreading now.
