The 2009 Global Rankings of Think Tanks (aka Think Tank Index) were released on January 28, 2010. The rankings are based on a global survey of hundreds of scholars and experts, according to the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania. The index, which is compiled by the Think Tanks and Civil Societies Program at the University of Pennsylvania, evaluated a total of 6305 think tanks worldwide. Close to 400 organizations were nominated and ranked by a global panel of 300 experts. What is the value of tank tanks to the public policy making process? Dr. Jim McGann points out, “Policymakers in the legislative and executive branches of government throughout the developed and developing world face the common problem of bringing expert knowledge to bear on governmental decision-making. The challenge then for the policymakers and think tanks is to harness the vast reservoir of knowledge, information and associational energy that exist in public policy research organizations in every region of the world for public good.” This has been added to Research Resources Subject Tracer™ Information blog.
